Acorn

okay, so this has nothing directly to do with trans issues. But it does have to do with the upcoming election and the attempt by many on the right to disenfranchise already marginalized voters. The whole "Acorn" story has taken off in the mainstream media, where it has received some of the most distorted coverage I have ever seen. Here is a video that attempts to set the record "straight" (no pun intended):

please feel free to pass the link onto anyone who needs to see it...

I mean, I think I'd argue that it does have a lot to do with trans issues, but I suppose you did just say "directly".

Anyway, thanks for the link! (and hi! It's been a while!)

hi Cedar, yes, i agree with you that it is an issue that impacts trans folks and many other marginalized groups. i posted that first on the Trans Group Blog (http://transgroupblog.blogspot.com/) which is supposed to be about trans issues - hence the qualifier. it wasn't really necessary to do that for my own blog, i was just too lazy to change it...

and yes, hi, it has been a while! hope you are well! -julia

yeah, pretty well. I'm in school again now, and while I like it sometimes, sometimes it's really, obnoxious, last night being one of them.

ah well.

I guess it shows how important it is to follow all the bureaucratic red tape to change your identity, despite the fact that changing your name through the courts can be more expensive than a common law name change, which can obviously be a burden for transpeople. I thought that when you changed your name, and the paperwork was filed at the local courthouse (which happened in my case) your name was automatically changed on the voting rolls. Oh well, I guess its always safer to vote by mail.
